Today (August 4th) is Dr. Atken Armenian's birthday. He would have been 77 years of age. His dream was to retire and devote his energies to continue work for the betterment of his beloved Armenia.
In this photo from the early 90s, taken in Artsakh in front of a captured Azeri tank, he had gone with a Red Cross group to help as a translator. His important work as Registrar and Dean of Extension at the American University of Armenia continues to echo today. His presence and positive influence on many had life-altering results on students and families alike in Armenia. His love for classical music brought Mozart and Komitas to remote regions of Armenia and opportunities to many young talents.
In these momentous times for Armenia, CULTURE and LOVE are the only forces that make life worthwhile. Dutch historian Johan Huizinga eloquently wrote: “If we are to preserve culture, we must continue to create it.”
We would like to devote this month to raise funds in his honour to pay for tuition costs for top musical talents in Armenia. The sky is the limit to how much you can help. No matter the amount, your contribution will make an impact. For more details, or to learn how you can be a guarantor for the best talent in Armenia, contact us directly.
AAF administrators are all volunteers, therefore 100% of your donation will go towards paying tuition fees.
Thank you for your support.
